Saturday morning and another beautiful day here. It’s weird how one day I can lose 3 or 4 lbs. and the next day only 1 lb., while doing the same thing. I’m feeling really good this morning, clear headed and a lot of energy.
For about 20 years now I’ve had a friend stop by on Friday nights, both of us indulging in some drink and often waking up Saturday mornings feeling a bit under the weather. I think my liver is thanking me this week 🙂
I have a history of chronic constipation and IBS prior to going on this juice fast. The first few days I’ve had movements, but nothing for the last 4 days again, although from the rumblings I’m hearing, I may be in for some joy today. (TMI?). I’ve read on Joe’s website that constipation, especially in the beginning, is not unusual. Had an interesting read on the differences between soluble and insoluble fibres.
9 pm…I couldn’t resist – I had a tablespoon of peanut butter….wow..that tasted too good lol.
Midnight and so ends another day and week one is complete 🙂 As of this morning I had lost 18 lbs. in one week. Not too shabby. I also enjoyed some coconut water this evening, but now it’s off to bed. Nite.

Typically I am be a late night kind of guy going to bed 12:30 to 2 am, depending on my energy level. I would then typically sleep (fitfully) until 8:30 or 9 am, dragging myself out of bed. This morning I woke at 5:45 am, feeling well rested and ready to take on the day. Took the dog for a walk and was working by 6:30 am. I think that’s a first! I work from home, so the commute is easy 🙂 I build websites ( Coastal Webmasters ) so sit in front of a computer all day. Since getting my dog 2 1/2 years ago, I’ve disciplined myself to go for regular walks, taking a much needed break from the computer. The last few days, with the weight loss, increase in energy and the nice spring weather, the walks are getting increasingly longer.
I just had my first juice of the day. Blood sugars are excellent (5.4 mmo/L) and I haven’t taken any diabetes medication for two days now. Even though I check both my blood sugars and blood pressure regularly throughout the say, I can’t wait to see my doctor on Monday to confirm all is on track.
It;s now 11 pm and my day is also drawing to a close. Today I prepared twice as much juice as I had in previous days. I was only doing 3 juices per day and still feeling hungry on day 5. So, today I had 5 in total and felt much better. I guess my veggie / fruit budget just got bumped up 🙂
Here is what’s included in a juicing. This is enough for just over one day. The finished product is put into mason jars and kept refrigerated for up to 72 hours (never lasts that long though) 🙂 Included is a huge quantity of mixed kale and spinach, about 20 celery stalks, 5 large cucumbers, 2 1/2 lemons (rinds removed, but retaining as much of the “white” as possible) and 5 thumb-sized pieces of ginger!

Only 1 pound lost in the last day, but I also realized that I did not drink as much water yesterday. I’ll be sure to drink more today.
I was hoping that I’d feel less hungry by now. It’s day 5 and I’m ready to start gnawing my right arm. Blood sugar levels are normal as well as blood pressure. I’m able to walk further as well – averaging 5 to 6 km (3 to 4 miles) per day. Glad the weather is nice.
My partner just made a really good smelling supper – I think it’s time for another walk lol.

Down a total of 13 lbs.
I guess when my BMI goes below 35, I’ll move from “Very Severely Obese” to only be “Severely Obese”.
I met someone today from Nanaimo, also on the Reboot with Joe forum. It’s kind of nice to meet someone from my own town. I may have scared her off though when I suggested we meet and maybe do a walk together. I hope she does come around and feel ok about that. Support while doing this is so very important.
My poor toilet has never been worked so hard lol. Im doing the green juice (kale, cucumber, celery, lemon, apple and ginger) 3 times a day and needing to restock on veggies / fruit every two days. I’m wondering about buying some in cases (maybe the kale and apples?), but I’m not sure how long it would keep without refrigeration. Someone suggested freezing the kale – might do that as well.
The hunger pangs seem to be easing off a little. I’m still having the occasional headache, but some deep breathing exercises and some mindful meditation really helps. The walks also help to clear the head.

Wow…only my third day and I’m down 9 lbs.
Day 3 started out better, but I’m starving right now. Only so much water a person can drink lol. Hoping tomorrow offers some relief.
I hope my puppy stays clear of me as I’m starting to picture him on a rotisserie.
I had a bit of a scare this evening. Since I have type 2 diabetes and since I am taking medication, I decided I would check my blood glucose levels. Normal is 5-10 mmol/L and I dropped to a very low 2 mmol/L I quickly took a couple of sugar cubes to bring things back within range and by bedtime I was back up to 3.7 mmol/L.
I should state here that Joe does mention (quite often) that you should see a doctor BEFORE starting a juice reboot. I had called to make an appointment, however am not able to get in to see him until May 8th. I didn’t want to put this off anymore as I was finally psyched to do this, so I went ahead anyways. I would NOT recommend this. Scared the crap out of me. I will now test my blood sugars before and after each meal and will adjust my medications accordingly.
I think my doctor might not be too happy when I tell him this 🙁

Experiencing a headache all day, but manageable. I seem to be more hungry on my second day than my first. Toughing it out.
It was suggested that I soak in epsom salt baths to relax, but I might not be able to get out of the tub again lol.
Down 3 lbs. I’m happy with that 🙂
I’m finding that evenings are my worst. During the day I can cope as I am usually busy. It’s the evening when I sit to unwind….start to think of munchies etc. Trying to stay busy with other things in the evening, like walks etc. But, it is 10:30 pm, and the end of day two. This one was harder for me than day one was. One or two more days and I should be through the worst of it…I hope 🙂
Another day tomorrow – keep juicing !

OK, I’m all psyched. Veggies washed and prepped. Juicer on my counter top. Plan to go the full 60 days, but honestly a bit scared. I know myself well….I always start with the best of intentions. I’m hoping this group will offer some of the support I will need.
I did the “Master Cleanse (http://themastercleanse.org/ )” like 30 years ago and lost a lot of weight then. Sadly, I didn’t maintain. I remember though that after the 3rd of 4th day my hunger pangs went away and I suddenly had all kinds of energy. I was literally bounding up stairs like a 12 year old.
I am now 30 years older, morbidly obese with a host of health issues (see profile). I am literally, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I know I am at risk of a heart attack or stroke if things don’t change real soon.
I am now nearing the end of day one. My stomach is making gurgling sounds as I type this, but overall I feel pretty good. Feel a bit hungry, but trying to stave that of by drinking lots of water and allow myself to calm down with some meditation. A friend also suggested visualizing myself getting cleaner inside.
